James W. Hall III, Ph.D. received a Bachelor's degree in biology from American International College, a Masters degree from Northwestern University and, in 1979, his Ph.D. in audiology from Baylor College of Medicine under the direction of Dr. James Jerger. Since then, he has held clinical and academic audiology positions at major medical centers, including the University of Pennsylvania, University of Texas Medical School-Houston, and Vanderbilt University.
Dr. Hall is now Clinical Professor in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at the University of Florida in Gainesville where he maintains a clinical practice, participates in funded research, and serves as a clinical instructor and mentor in the Doctor of Audiology on-campus and distance learning programs. He also holds an appointment as Extraordinary Professor in the Department of Communication Pathology at the University of Pretoria in South Africa.
Dr. Hall's major clinical and research interests are clinical electrophysiology, auditory processing disorders, and tinnitus/hyperacusis. He regularly lectures internationally on these and other audiology and hearing-related topics. Dr. Hall is the author of over 125 peer-reviewed journal articles, monographs, or book chapters, as well as seven textbooks including the Handbook of Otoacoustic Emissions, the New Handbook of Auditory Evoked Responses, Audiologists' Desk Reference (Volumes I and II), and the recently published Objective Assessment of Hearing.

You are introduced to terms used to describe hearing loss, like “type “, “configuration”, and “degree.” You will learn how patterns of results shown in an audiogram can help to determine whether a patient has normal hearing, a conductive hearing loss, a sensorineural hearing loss, or a mixed hearing loss. You’ll also begin to recognize the audiogram shapes that are typically found in patients with hearing loss due to excessive noise exposure and some other causes of hearing loss.

Audiology Applications of Tele-health
Presenter: De Wet Swanepoel, Ph.D [bio]De Wet Swanepoel, Ph.D
Dr. De Wet Swanepoel is an associate professor and clinical research audiologist at the Department of Communication Pathology, University of Pretoria, South Africa and adjunct Professor at the University of Texas at Dallas, Callier Center for Communication Disorders. His research and clinical interests span the field of early identification and diagnosis of hearing loss, objective measures of auditory functioning, HIV-related auditory dysfunction and telehealth. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and recently co-authored a book on objective assessment of hearing with Dr. James W. Hall III, and co-edited a book on HIV/AIDS-associated communication disorders. He has received several awards, including a President's rating from the National Research Foundation, and research grants in recognition of his work in these areas.
Dr. Swanepoel is a regular presenter at international conferences and serves on a number of international committees including the Board of the International Society of Audiology and the World Health Organization ICF Core Set for Hearing Loss Committee. He is an associate editor for the International Journal of Audiology and reviews for a number of other academic journals.

James W. Hall III, Ph.D. received a Bachelor's degree in biology from American International College, a Masters degree from Northwestern University and, in 1979, his Ph.D. in audiology from Baylor College of Medicine under the direction of Dr. James Jerger. Since then, he has held clinical and academic audiology positions at major medical centers, including the University of Pennsylvania, University of Texas Medical School-Houston, and Vanderbilt University.
Dr. Hall is now Clinical Professor in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at the University of Florida in Gainesville where he maintains a clinical practice, participates in funded research, and serves as a clinical instructor and mentor in the Doctor of Audiology on-campus and distance learning programs. He also holds an appointment as Extraordinary Professor in the Department of Communication Pathology at the University of Pretoria in South Africa.
Dr. Hall's major clinical and research interests are clinical electrophysiology, auditory processing disorders, and tinnitus/hyperacusis. He regularly lectures internationally on these and other audiology and hearing-related topics. Professor Jackie Clark is currently a Clinical Associate Professor at UT Dallas’ School of Brain and Behavioral Sciences, and has been appointed as a Research Scholar at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. Courses that she teaches include: Advanced Clinical Audiology; Diagnostic Audiology; Pediatric Audiology; Anatomy & Physiology of the Auditory System; Electrophysiology; Planning/Providing Humanitarian Audiology Services in Developing Countries.
She has authored many peer-reviewed research articles, some book chapters, and has been invited to lecture in many parts of the world. Dr. Clark has been able to maintain an international perspective as the Chair of the Humanitarian Committee of the International Society of Audiology; Managing Editor of the International Journal of Audiology; Co-organizer of the Coalition for Global Hearing Health Conference; and engages in an annual philanthropic program in Southern Africa that began in 1997. She was the recipient of the American Academy of Audiology Humanitarian Award in 2005.
Dr. Clark is a long-time member of the American Academy of Audiology; board-certified with the American Board of Audiology; licensed to practice audiology and dispense hearing aids in the States of Texas and Louisiana. When at home in Texas, she carries an active clinical caseload with clinical duties involving adult and pediatric diagnosis, and electrophysiological assessments.
